Re: [SLE] How to get Java working in Mozilla 0.9.6?
Hmm, I thought it was just me having problems with Java and Mozilla 0.96. If I place the Java plugin from JDK1.3.1_01 (ns6) in the Mozilla plugin directory and enable Java, Mozilla dies silently as soon as I hit a page requiring Java support. And this to used to work under Mozilla 09.5 Any ideas? Kind regards, Simon Tim Harrell wrote:
Hi,
I can't seem to get the Java support working for 0.96. I have the Blackdown JRE 1.3.1 netscape plugin which works great for Konq and Opera.
However when I make the symlink in MOZILLA_HOME/plugins to the same plugin.so for Mozilla, it doesn't seem to recognise it being there.
I am using the netscape6 plugin in Blackdown (I've tried the mozilla one also but it makes no difference).
Also, when I select Helper Applications in the Preferences tab the only Mime type it shows is text/html. This doesn't look right. Where's everything else?
This all used to work under Moz 0.92. :-(
Doh!
You just pointed me to the obvious one.
Enable Java!
I didn't have to do that in the 0.92 version (it must have defaulted to using
Java) but once I found it from the Advanced tab it works!

Argh! But does it work? As I said, Mozilla just dies on me. Kind regards, Simon Tim Harrell wrote:

java path must be set correctly, in 7.3 with Mozilla latest rpm-s (0.9.6), mozilla tries to find java in a wrong place. (at least it's so with IBM's Java). Run mozilla from x terminal and look what he's talking... ain Simon Heaton wrote:

Thanks for the suggestion Ain. Indeed I see it is spitting out the error: "Plugin: can 't find plugins/../java directory" Now what directory is it trying to find? I tried putting a symlink called java in the "plugins/../java" directory, pointing to $JAVA_HOME but still got this error. Any ideas? Kind regards, Simon Ain Vagula wrote:

I'm not behind my Linux box at moment, but when trying to remember... mozilla thought, that java directory is /usr/lib/IBMjava/jre/bin/ but actually it was /usr/lib/IBMjava/bin/, so I made link to satisfy him... I'm quite sure, it is not a very good solution, but it worked. ain Simon Heaton wrote:

There's an installer bug in Bugzilla regarding the Java plugin: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100393 It's flagged as a Win98 bug, but the release notes indicate it may affect Linux as well: http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla0.9.4/#java --Jason Van Cleve

I think I read in a README in Mozilla distribution that symlinks should be in /xxx/xxx/mozilla/plugins.
Mine works great.

Thanks to all those who gave help. Indeed I found the solution on the Mozilla Home v0.9.6 Release Notes. The solution is to create the following sym link: ln -s /usr/java/jdk1.3.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so /opt/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so With this (and enabling Java of course!) everything now works fine. Kind regards. Simon Ed Harrison wrote:
