Suse 7.1 kernel 2.4.17 kde 2.2.2 XF86-4.2.0 I am trying to diagnose a problem with konqueror. It suffers from a delay when trying to move around the filesystem and moving from window to window. For example if I click on a directory -have a look -then want to go back, by clicking on the back button in the menu bar, I have to wait a second or so for it to happen. It is as if I have to wait for the mouse to activate the menu bar. I tried reinstalling it but this has not achieved anything. This is perculiar to konqueror and in not the case with other software. Has anyone come across this ? I like konq and would like to make more use of it. Brian Marr
I've been told and I have seen to some extent Konq being quite slow because of the use of QT 2.3.2. It has been suggested that falling back to 2.3.1 would be a solution to speed issues. I've found that KDE3 and QT 3.0.3 are by far way faster and responsible, but your mileage may vary in whatever you choose. * Brian Marr (cabernet@internode.on.net) [020408 00:57]: ::Suse 7.1 kernel 2.4.17 kde 2.2.2 XF86-4.2.0 :: ::I am trying to diagnose a problem with konqueror. I've been finding this too - intermittently - right up to KDE3 which I'm running now. It can be fine for ages, (and when it is fine, it is faster in KDE3 than before) then suddenly it starts going slow. Then a while later it *sometimes* goes back to normal speed. It's not doing DNS lookups or something mad like that I wonder? -- Rachel

I've noticed that under KDE3 that one of the kdeinit child processes will just boink out and shoot CPU usage and swap through the roof. I just do a kill -HUP <pid> and everything goes back to normal. Don't ask me why..because I don't honestly know...but it works. It's a .0 release and not even a SuSE tweaked release..so I don't bitch. I'm rather fond of 3.0..for it's speed and eye candy ;) Other then that I still just use Mozilla and a hell of a lot of Xterms. -=Ben --=====-----=====-- mailto:ben@whack.org --=====-- "I've never been quarantined. What is the best way to go back -download again and reinstall the rpm ? Brian Marr Results of "locate qt" /usr/lib/qt-2.3.1 /usr/lib/qt-2.3.2 /usr/lib/qt-2.2.3 On Mon, 8 Apr 2002 18:04, you wrote:

I had the same problem, after reverting to qt2.3.1 from the 7.3 CD everything was solved. Cheers, Hans On Monday 08 April 2002 12:42, Brian Marr wrote:

Thanks to everyone for this feedback. I am sure you are right about qt causing this. Back to the problem -I am still on Suse 7.1, so I cannot use the disks. I have upgraded kde packages successfully a number of times, but going back became problematic. I tried removing qt 2.3 and installing qt 2.1 and it broke the my xserver. Startx would not work - xdm would not work. It is going ok on qt 2.3 for the moment. I will look at going to KDE 3.0 if problems persist. Brian Marr On Tue, 9 Apr 2002 20:37, you wrote:
