Hello, I'm trying to install the drm-kernel, but I don't have the 2.4.19-4GB source code installed. When I try to use Yast to get the source, Yast just freezes. So, I obtained the 2.4.19 kernel source from kernel.org, but I don't know if its identical to SuSe's. Either way, I'm missing some files from /usr/include (namely module.h and version.h). Anyone have success installing drm-kernel? ===== This has been a test of the emergency broadcasting channel, if this was an actual emergency, you would be dead. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Oh yeah, I have SuSe 8.2. I've found instructions for 8.1, but they're unclear to me. E.g.:
Then you'll have to compile the DRM kernel modules. The sources can be found in
* suse81/DRI (SuSE Linux 8.1)
Anyone know what this refers to?

Thanks Ben! Err, actually I got confused, I got 8.1.
So how can I go about getting the kernel source? I
want to be extra sure I'm getting the correct kernel
source. Thanks.

Hi,
I'm attempting to install the DRM kernel modules
for SuSE 8.1 w/ XFree86 4.3.0. I get to the command:
# install -m 644 -o root -g root gamma.o i810.o i830.o
mga.o r128.o radeon.o tdfx.o /lib/modules/`uname
-r`/kernel/drivers/char/drm
and I get the following error:
install: cannot stat `gamma.o': No such file or
directory
Any ideas? Also, do I need all the qt3-3.1 files? I
just updated from XFree86 4.2.0 to 4.3.0

If I recall kernel/2.4.19 is not fully supported by XFree86 4.3.0. I circumvented this by not trying to install the missing file. 2D worked just fine but there was no way to get 3d working. I ended up reverting to XFree86 4.2.0 because I use win4lin and its latest patch won't apply to SuSE kernels higher than 2.4.19. Your choices include 1) get a newer kernel 2.4.2x or higher (experimental) from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mantel/next or a mirror like ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mantel/next and compile that and install the DRM modules 2) Stick with kernel/2.4.19 and XFree86 4.2.0 if you need 3D games and screensavers and can live w/out the minor 2D improvements. 3) run XFree86 4.3.0 on kernel 2.4.19 without 3D Sounds like #1 would work in your case if you don't have conflicting patches.
