[opensuse] I want to start courier-imap, but in /etc/rc.d/ is *courier-imap..
Hi, Now i want to startup the imap server, but when i run: /etc/rc.d/courir-imap start bash returns: courier-imap: command not found As in the subjectline in/etc/rc.d/ are many files, but they all have an * in front of them, and i cannot create an * in tty. How can i get rid of the asterisks, or what do you suggest me to do next? tia, Regards, Rob. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) (Now or never...) Front? An asterisk behind in xterm means it is executable, and it is not part of the name. But yes, you can type an * if youescape it. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. He Carlos,
How do i find the correct ip address to enter in telnet?
regards, Rob.
because when i enter the address from ifconfig eth0, which is in my case: 192.168.1.110, i get connection refused. i use command: $telnet ipaddress[enter] -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) Testing imap? You have to specify the port. Without that, it uses the default port, and that would be attended by the telnetd daemon which in openSUSE is not installed normally, ssh is preferred. Try telnet localhost 143 - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. No, the connection stays refused, no matter using user or root. There must be something else... I am searching for a debug command, to see why the connection is refused....

i've never used courier imap server, but i'm sure it has one or probably more config. files. for dovecot, which i'm using, you have to specify which addresses & ports it's supposed to listen on, and which protocols it's going to support. what does your config say? normally you can also specify where log entries should be saved, in a separate file, or sent to syslog. after an unsuccessful login attempt, if courier was actually running, these logs should tell you something about the reason. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I suppose it has something to do with the susefirewall: some services i had to enable are not present in the list. looking at xinetd, imap is not toggled on, when i toggle on imap, yast react: pakg needs to be installed: imap (courier-imap is installed) i select install, nothing happens, just imap can't get installed, all services are locked, super server is disabled, I look at software management, and select imap, i get courier-imap installed.... This way, these services cannot be added to the firewall, i am forced to disable it. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) (Now or never...) I was correct about the firewall, now i can connect to courier-imap without problems.. i am going to install ISPConfig, which has its own firewall.... oh, and i had to install telnet from xinetd, which was np, afterwards it could be selected in the firewallsettings.. imap could not be selected because courier was not recognised by xinetd, so i can not use the opensuse firewall atm. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.)
