You don't mention what SuSE version you have. SuSE 9.3 contains glibc 2.3.4.

You don't. Unless you are an expert, and then you don't need to ask (and the experts say that it is way more difficult than updating the kernel). Almost every application depends on glibc. If you change it, you break dependencies of the whole system, so you should have to update everything...
