[opensuse] suspend-to-ram command (sw control) hw-works
I have a system I'd like to keep suspended when not needed (it has a 'well-endowed' power supply, *cough*). It will happily go to sleep (suspend to ram) as I have it configured in the system's BIOS, on pressing the power button on the front. Unfortunately, it seems to wake up daily (at 17:00PDT) for reasons I haven't entirely verified, but have ideas about (it's not the wake-up daily setting in the bios) -- but - I'd like to have it go back to sleep after a period of time if I am not logged into the machine (i.e. it's idle). While automating idle detection is a desirable goal, of more immediate concern is simply the ability to enter a 'suspend-to-mem' command at the command prompt. powersaved is running, but I'm not sure how to send it a command even if it is the write daemon to handle the suspension. I'm **hoping** (presuming? guessing?) that suspend-to-mem via software should be reasonably 'simple', since it already works in hardware (i.e. when I press the power-button on the front of the machine). So what command do I use to tell it to suspend to mem? I'm expecting to look at idled as a starting point for automating the suspension -- hope that works fine detecting an idle machine. If worst came to worst, I could have a cron-script checking to see if anyone is logged in -- and if not -- suspend, but I'd rather not have to keep track of state checking in a script to verify that no one has been logged in for the past "X" minutes...(i.e. I'd hope that idled could be configured to do that for me).... Any suggestions...I'm sure it's something obvious I'm not finding in the manpages with the right keywords...
