can be deceiving of course, but these were the experiences of the first half hour of using KDE 3.2: - Nice looking! Very snappy to respond, and some very nice eye candy all over. - Kgpg agent seems not to start automatically anymore. - My shortcuts to certain programs like mail don't work. - Someone updated my entire K-Menu. The MenuEditor however works very well, so that was fixed swiftly. - Automatic login (without password), seems to give me an authorisation error. - Kmail complains that my smtp server doesn't allow AUTH. I don't know if Kmail just didn't use it before, or if my smtp server just happened to change when I was updating, because my settings are the same as they were before the upgrade. - Nice eyecandy! :) - The fonts seem to have grown just a tad. Not a bad look though. - Where are my SuSE window decorations? I can understand the settings have been changed, but I can't get the old window decorations back. Too bad, cause though the KDE ones look good, I preferred the SuSE setup. - Why is there a jumping icon next to my mousepointer when the computer is busy? Cute, but still. :) - Managed to make my kicker fully transparent. Very nice touch, though now I dislike the little menu triangle arrows. Wonder if they can be turned off... Overall I'm satisfied with the upgrade. I'll have to see how stable it works in the next few days, and if I can get rid of some of the problems mentioned above, but I think it's a very good new version of KDE. Regards, Pieter Hulshoff
I'd love to do the upgrade, but I'm afraid of breaking Yast's updating. Any idea if the upgrade caused any major conflicts or dependency errors in Yast? Pieter Hulshoff wrote:

Does the SUSE plugger still work and the SUSE Watcher? When I tried one of the test versions neither of these would work any longer (and I kind of like the plugger). What about konqueror? Can you still browse to rpm files and install them with a couple clicks (sorry I can't remember what this is called, but it is a plugin SUSE includes that will install RPM's with YOU via Konqueror)? The other think I use that didn't work was Super Karamba. It didn't support transparent widgets any longer. On Tue, 2004-02-03 at 16:43, Pieter Hulshoff wrote:

I don't know where to find the plugger, but the watcher appears to be working still. There's no new updates yet, so it's hard to know if it works fully, but the icon's there, and it still responds properly.

I think the setup has been changed, for it now runs kpackage when I click on one. I'll see if I can get that back to using Yast2 in stead.

Never used this, so I can't tell you if it does or not. Regards, Pieter Hulshoff

Ok, this one turned out to be a setting in the control center. I could change it back to the way it was, but I kinda like it the new way. :) Regards, Pieter Hulshoff
Morning all, Well, my KDE had disappeared when I woke up this morning, together with X. Wonder what that is all about. Konqueror seems to be a tad swifter loading pages since the upgrade, but more importantly: it now reads pages it couldn't before, like www.webwereld.nl. :) Regards, Pieter Hulshoff
Hmmm, I just noticed that mplayer doesn't show some of my movies full screen anymore. Some do, but many don't. They take up a large part of the screen, but I can still see part of KDE as well. Wonder what cause that to happen... Regards, Pieter Hulshoff

Interesting! I run SuSE 8.2, and you? Any webpages you have problems with that I could try out with KDE 3.2? Regards, Pieter Hulshoff

No, I do not use konq that often, mainly firebird. SUSE 9.0 KDE 3.1.4 -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org
