[SLE] Anything better out there than Netscape?
Ok, I have had it with netscape. Any other browsers out there that work better under SuSE? Thanks!! -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

That completely depends on what it is that makes you happy while web browsing. In my opinion Netscape is the best full-featured graphical browser at this time for Linux. I don't have many troubles with it, and it doesn't have (what I consider) wierd quirks like all the others that I have tried (i.e., poorly rendered pages, malfunctioning cookies, etc.). In the future, Mozilla and Konqueror both look promising (Opera does too I suppose), but for now I oscillate between w3m and Netscape depending on my mood. (I hear some people recommending Mozilla already, but to me it is painfully obvious that it is in alpha.) _david -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Hi David, what I have been running into is when I shut down netscape, it does not seem to unload from memory, I have to kill the task. And, on some sites (yahoo being one) it will load the page and then keep loading...what I dont know, but it drives me nuts! As far is what I want to do, a lot of research more than anything. I have used Opera for windows, and loved it, but hated windows, so Opera had to go. The Alpha version of Opera for Linux is very buggy, that is the one I am waiting on.....looking for something to get by until then.

Oki, no Alpha(AXP) version yet :( I should probably have asked this question in suse-axp list instead... /Mattias -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

This question gets brought up and regurgitated repeatedly. Unfortunately, Netscape still seems to be the only Linux browser which, even if imperfectly, supports many of the features that many web sites demand. If you can put up with missing features, try Kfm -- seems to be fast, does frames and graphics well, but does not do Java at all and seems to have no plug-in support (I might be wrong --) And I love the Kfm drag 'n' drop feature for downloading, uploading files -- Never trust a man in a suit cll -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
if lynx had a gui then we all would be set ya know... hey thats an idea attention all you coders.......someone write a gui for lynx..... make it open source and all that good stuff... i have tried alot of diffrent browsers for linux and if opera ever gets in stable release then we would be set also... gzilla aka armadillo looks promising, and so does qweb if it ever gets updated...kfm is kinda like opera in a way but like an early version of opera if your really desperate try wine with an older opera cause the success rate is really good with older ones... My own opinion is that Netscape is going the right direction with Mozilla. www.mozilla.org. They plan on putting out a beta soon. Sure it will have it's problems, but they are implementing many, many, new technologies using recommendations for industry standards. I hope more of the OSS community gets behind Mozilla. I am not a Lawyer, so I can't say exactly how the MPL differs from the GPL. The latest nightly build I ran of Mozilla looked pretty good. Netsacpe's developers are great fans of Linux. If they didn't have to code another line of code for Win32, I don't think it would break anybody's heart over there. Remember, the guys at Netscape are the real pioneers in making HTTP a viable media. They invented LDAP, JavaScript, SSL, and lots of other good stuff. They also contributed to Java's Swing. The reason IS has taken over the market is because Bill dumped the product on the market with the stated intent to "Cut of [Netscape's] air supply". The Netscape folks have made many of their products opened, at leas to the point where you can read the code. Even if you can transcribe the code and GPL it, you can still learn how it works, and if you can figure out a similar, yet distinct way of doing the same thing, then you can GPL that. I have worked with Netscape inc. for almost as long as they have been public. They are good folks, and are willing to share. If you don't like the browser you have, www.mozilla.org, make one you like! Steve richard fern wrote:
