[opensuse] Problem with OpenGL
I have just installed the 64 bit version of openSUSE v10.2 on a new machine with a AMD 64 bit CPU and a GeForce 6200 TurboCache graphics card. I am having a problem with several applications that I have successfully run on a 32 bit openSUSE system. When I attempt running these programs I get an error message: OpenGL misconfiguration detected. /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 differs from /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.s One of the programs suggests removing the xorg-X11-Mesa-libGL package, i.e. the /usr/X11R6/lib version, and reinstalling the graphics card driver. My problem is that in addition there is a /lib/X11R6/lib subdirectory there is also a /usr/X11R6/lib64 subdirectory which contain libGL files. Which ones should I remover before reinstalling the graphic card drivers? Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

libGL.so.s a typo? Here is what is listed in mine /usr/X11R6/lib/ with command ls -og -rw-r--r-- 1 652 Dec 7 02:19 libGL.la lrwxrwxrwx 1 17 Jan 13 23:39 libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.1.0.9631 -rwxr-xr-x 1 567628 Dec 7 02:19 libGL.so.1.0.9631 lrwxrwxrwx 1 21 Jan 13 23:39 libGLcore.so.1 -> libGLcore.so.1.0.9631 -rwxr-xr-x 1 8961144 Dec 7 02:19 libGLcore.so.1.0.9631 and /usr/lib/ with the command ls -og libGL* lrwxrwxrwx 1 10 Jan 13 20:38 libGL.so -> libGL.so.1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 12 Jan 13 20:38 libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.1.2 -rwxr-xr-x 1 363364 Nov 27 13:02 libGL.so.1.2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 16 Jan 13 20:38 libGLcore.so.1 -> libGLcore.so.1.0 -rwxr-xr-x 1 4876 Nov 27 13:02 libGLcore.so.1.0 Versions are not identical, but I had no problems to run applications but I have only openSUSE applications right now.

Wild guess is none. If you install nVidia driver using nvidia-installer downloaded from ftp://download.nvidia.com like described on http://en.opensuse.org/NVIDIA it should take care of files that conflict with driver. I know for sure that it does if you use procedure described in "The hard way" paragraph. I used that recently for 10.3 alpha test. What is missing in mentioned paragraph is that you have to install kernel sources, check for kernel sources updates with YOU (YaST Online Update), and than run installer script. When installer wants to download kernel <something> from nvidia web site decline it and it will use your sources in /usr/src/linux. -- Regards, Rajko. http://en.opensuse.org/Portal -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, that is a typo. It should be libGL.so.1 Thanks for noticing -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

In that case the test of this particular application is bogus. Certainly well meant, but bogus. These two libraries are different by intention. /usr/lib/libGL.so is from the Mesa package, while /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so is from the NVidia package, which should only be installed, if you have a nvidia card. /usr/X11R6/lib precedes /usr/lib for linking libraries, so all programs should pick up the NVidia library.

Both, if you're running a 64bit system. /usr/X11R6/lib64 contains the
(native) 64bit library, /usr/X11R6/lib the compatibility library for
running 32bit applications.
