I suggest that you check /var/lock/.
Thanks for your reply Anders. It turned out to be a permissions problem, when I created "/var2" I didn't give it the right permissions. After renaming /var2 to /var I wasn't able to write to it as a user and thus the /var/lock/LCK..modem file couldn't be written.
