As far as Java, I generally dislike Java and don't use it much, so I don't feel I can comment on Eclipse for Java work, but I use it daily for web development, PHP, and Python, and semi-daily for C/C++, and I love it. On SUSE 10.2 and 10.3. I love how I can go from work computer to laptop to my home (SUSE) box and work on the same (or different) projects with the same tool, and different underlying build environments.

What is interesting here is when you examine it a bit more closely is how underdeveloped non Java support is, Fortran.. but apparently only on openVMS (?), the python module is only Jave 5 compliant (and apparently unavailable). Netbeans is great IDE, but a bit limited in scope when compared to other more heavyweight IDEs. There are a few thing only it seems to do currently does well (CLC/MIDP mobile phone app development is one) and if I need to do these things I will use it. If of course, a suitable eclipse based alternate has not been created and as there are currently 979 eclipse plugins there is a good chance there one currently available. - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
