I would examine the X server's log from RedHat and would try to see whether my X is running at 1x, 2x or 4x in RHL. Without going into why, I would try to see what is different. If it has been implemented that way in RHL that it permits only 1X or something.... Even a failed X shall give you logs in SuSE and probably you should compare them.
