(Linux Noob question) How do you revert back to APM? kernel bootup option? ACPI=OFF - does that turn APM on?

I tried too - my laptop doesn't like ACPI. If I fall back to APM, all works perfectly - IBM X31.

Needless to say, I tried enabling the standby/suspend - My laptop just don't like it. Standby goes into standby mode and immediately wakes back up. Suspend does write the "stuff" out to the hibernation files, but when I boot it back up, it hard-locks after the screen is redrawn.
