I have Suse 9.1 with all the latest updates, running on a home-built system (Asus A7V8X-MX SE, Athlon XP 2000, 256MB RAM). When I try to use a USB 2.0 storage device (Maxtor OneTouch), it runs at USB 1.1 speed. The ehci driver is loaded. When I installed a stock 2.6.8.1 kernel, the drive runs at normal USB 2.0 speed, so my guess is that the problem lies in Suse's kernel patches. I don't mind using the stock kernel, but I'm curious what else I'm missing (such as subfs). Should I stay with the 2.6.8.1 kernel, or try to get the drive to work with Suse's kernel? If the latter, any suggestions how? If the former, any suggestions on folding some of Suse's more useful patches into the stock kernel?
