I just configured openDNS... now I have to try it for a while and see what happens. It's hard to tell if there is any difference initially since the problem pops up on its own schedule instead of being repeatable :-P Makes for an incredibly difficult to diagnose problem.
I still want to try rebooting the router and modem again to see if this makes a difference. (I'm trying one thing at a time this time instead of all at once)
Nope, this did not work either... after doing some random browsing after setting the OpenDNS servers (using YaST) it errored out.... time to set it back to default, and then cycle the router and modem. I'm running out of things to test :-P
I don't know if this is related. Since a few months, i sometimes notice the same problem. For about 30-60 sec's no internet possible. Untill i saw it appear on this list i lived with this annoyance and paid no attention to it. The first time i noticed it, it was after a firefox update, i cannot recall from memory which update it was. As far as i remember i then tried to ping a shellserver of my ISP but i got no replies. The strange thing was that my wife's account on the other computer and my daughter on her computer had no problems, all internet was available to them. Today i had the same problem, i updated firefox and after the update firefox started normally, but all requests timed out. Looking in my firewall/modem logs i discovered that all dns requests from my computer were blocked by my router: (Excuses for the long lines) Sep 19 20:04:10 192.168.1.1 RAS: src="192.168.1.123:1832" dst="194.109.104.104:53" note="ACCESS DROPPED" devID="BB7B70" cat="Access Control" Sep 19 20:04:10 192.168.1.1 RAS: src="192.168.1.123:1831" dst="194.109.104.104:53" note="ACCESS DROPPED" devID="BB7B70" cat="Access Control" Sep 19 20:04:12 192.168.1.1 RAS: src="192.168.1.123:1833" dst="194.109.104.104:53" note="ACCESS DROPPED" devID="BB7B70" cat="Access Control" [snip] This happened till 20:05:02: Sep 19 20:05:02 192.168.1.1 RAS: src="192.168.1.123:1848" dst="194.109.104.104:53" msg="Firewall default policy: UDP (L to W)" note="ACCESS PERMITTED" devID="BB7B70" cat="Access Control" So after some small amount of time all went back to normal and i had internet back on my computer. Again, during the failure to my computer, my wife and my daughter had no problems with internet on their computers. Since a few months this allways happens _AFTER_ a firefox update. I am running Opensuse 10.3, firefox version: 3.5.3-1.2 Firewall/router/modem: Zyxel P660H Greetings, Cor van Haastregt -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
