Dear Michael, I appreciate your offer of help. Thanks alot. Michael Sacco wrote:
Marcia,
What exactly isn't working. Is the module orinoco_cs even getting loaded when you put the card in? If you type "lsmod | grep orinoco_cs" it will tell you.
Nothing shows or seems to happen.
Also, if you have questions about the configuration settings in each file, ask away. I will answer them to the best of my ability. I am nowhere near a wireless networking expert, but I have been able to set up a microsoft wireless nic card under linux ( :P microsoft!!).
It sounds like you know alot more about wireless than I then.
I seem to have a fairly good understanding of the workings each config file now, and I'm sure if I answer wrong, someone else here will correct me.
So write me back with some more specifics and we'll take it from there.
Here is some info from my system:
cat /etc/sysconfig/network/wireless # If you have a wireless NIC and want to set some special wireless parameters # then you can do that here in this file globally for all cards you have. But # you can write each of these variables to the interface specific ifcfg-* files # to handle things per card. # # There is a detection if a NIC is wireless or not. This detection is used as # long as WIRELESS="". But you can switch it 'off' with WIRELESS=off (or 'no') # or enable it globally with WIRELESS=yes. WIRELESS="yes" # The following variable names match the option names of iwconfig. Have a look # at 'man iwconfig' for details. # If WIRELESS_NICK is empty we use the hostname; all other variables do nothing # if empty.
