Compared to just compiling the tarball? Then it indeed has no disadvantages.
If you are (for example) only compiling the app to see whether you like it, do you really want to spend half an hour (or more) of actual human effort?
I guess I would, but I'm that sort of guy that compiles with full compiler warnings switched on and fixes those warnings wherever possible :) So you should ask somebody else :) cheers Philipp
