The maintainer at KDE close my bug saying that he believes that it is not a KDE problem...
Do you get your users via network nis, ldap whatever? Could be that kdm pops up before all users are available. So maybe login fails because you try too early rather because it's the first try.
You could check whether your problem also happens if you don't start services in parallel.
I have the same issue. Simple local authentication. System is ready, I would think, as it happens for every login, not just the first one after boot.
