Simply put, digging a little reveals that MS is involved, and the decision makers for ILEC don't use Linux. So it adds up to the practice. I am on a DSL connection also that only officially supports MS. Roaring Penguin is great for PPPoE (IE. connecting through a Redback).
It depends on what they mean. The ISP I use doesn't support Linux but what that means is if you call tech support the person at the other end can't help. Well some might be able to but don't count on it. Now considering some of the comments from the windows users I'm not sure that's a problem. OTOH I think they have a few web pages describing the process of setting up under Linux. So they won't hold your hand but they really don't care what you use. I think the problem is the pppoe client. They buy a client for windows. Your ISP might not want to spend the money to get the Linux version. Nick
