Hi:
I have Suse 9.1 and VMware Workstation 4.5.1.
Things appeared to go well with the installation and execution of the vmware-config.pl script, until it got to the point of attempting to set up a samba username and passwd, which generated the following error (and which also happens if I try to use the manual config tools for the VMware Samba server):
mango2:/etc/vmware # vmware-smbpasswd vmnet1 crcarle /usr/bin/vmware-smbpasswd.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libpopt.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I suppose this is a result of having the Samba 3.0 from Suse but VMware is likely based on 2.x. I installed all of the available Suse 9.1 samba related packages, but to no avail.
Any idea how to deal with this problem?
Thanks.
Setting up a Samba server is a usefull thing to know, and SWAT ( http://localhost:901/ ) makes it child's play. I've always set up my own samba servers, and not relied on Vmware to do it for me. (Section 16.1 in the admin guide). Also are you sure you have samba running in the run-level editor? I think you are right in that Vmware was written when 3.0 was just comeing out, and vmware might not know how to do it correctly or completely in the SuSE environment. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen
