no worst than having no raid... raid is only an availability question - and a price one. When price do not matter (or is low according to the general budget), it's obviously better Greg said it's for a consolidation use, so he have other copies elsewhere, probably several my main concern on raid is unused data control, that is verification of the integrity of unused data on disk (to prevent unexpected multi disk failure).
