A couple of weeks ago I posted about the KDE printing subsystem crashing on opening kprinter or attempting to print from a KDE app. Johannes suggested that the best way to resolve this might be to upgrade KDE. I was reluctant to do this, and in fact it was not necessary. On one of the German mailing-lists I came across a couple of posts saying that the cause is in fact a problem in SuSE's CUPS package, and that the fix is to add a hostname to the localhost line in /etc/hosts. To do this: (su) pico /etc/hosts Adjust the line: 127.0.0.1 localhost to read: 127.0.0.1 yourhostname localhost Save and exit. rcnetwork restart rccups restart I have done this on the two 8.2 installs that were having this problem, and so far, touch wood, it appears to work. I can set up the printers correctly, and KDE apps can print to them without collapsing. So this is one for your notebook, Johannes :-) -- Best wishes Kevin Donnelly www.kyfieithu.co.uk - Meddalwedd Rhydd yn Gymraeg
