Hi, For server applications like MySQL and Apache, the regular way in SuSE to start and stop these is: rcmysql start (or stop/restart/status) rcapache start (or stop/restart/status) They are not started by default after boot, so you got to start them up to use it. The SuSE documentation might be a bit skimpy on such info. For information on how to configure and use the applications, I have found that the manuals on the respective web sites is a good way to start, and that nothing beats a good book for diving into to the details. http://www.mysql.com/documentation/index.html http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0596002653/qid=1037715260/sr=1- 6/ref=sr_1_3_6/202-3538097-2560607 Regards, Jostein
Hi,
I saw in the October archives someone was looking for a MySQL administration tool. Something we have always used in the past was webmin. It manages A LOT more then MySQL. I highly recommend it. Very easy to install and get going in 30 seconds.
But now my question, "oh hum". In the SuSE 8.1 Professional distribution installation, how do you know what to do next for each application? I requested MySQl and addon's to be installed. They are. I can look in the documentation directory and the SuSE Help Center.
But I simply want to know how to start, stop, configure, and I can never seem to find that information. Also, the MYSQL database admin was selected. It is "installed", but where is it? How do I get at it, how does it work, etc, etc?
I had the same experience with SSL. It was installed. I looked at the doc directory (i.e., SuSE ReadME) and SuSE Help, and I'm left not knowing much more than I did before. I find this very, very frustrating. Each application requires 3+ hours. I'm feel really silly here, because a lot of folks on this list seem to be flying through these installs. Where are you finding the information to start/stop/configure and if there is a SuSE tool to do it or if you have to do it manually?
I suspect the man/info packages are not unique to the SuSE distribution, so I really haven't been reading those. I'm trying really hard not to mess-up/break SuSE.
Any suggestions, tips/tricks, would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you.
