If you are using maildir, you could consider making that partition a reiserfs one. I haven't used reiserfs for a few years. All my partitions are ext4 now. What benefit would reiserfs have?
Maildir means at least one file per email, maybe up to three if a separate file is used for the headers. That can mean millions of small files - and that's the situation when reiserfs shines. Otherwise, you can use any other filesystem, tuning it for many small files (more inodes and smaller sector size). Or use neither mbox nor maildir, but one of the other formats that dovecot can use. I would like to try "mdbox", a dovecot version of maildir using several mails per file. http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
