Judging by the response, I guess I'm the only one using LVM. No matter - in case someone else starts playing with LVM, here's the answer, for the record. SuSE install will let you reformat your existing logical volumes and mount them appropriately. What it WON'T do is count the space in the LVs as available for the install. Once the install starts, it WILL use the LV partitions. Your root partition will have to be big enough to handle a minimal install, then you can go back and add packages. I usually use a 200 MB root partition, but for this I swiped my swap partition and make a 712 MB root partition (you can add a swap partition to the LVM later). This allowed a minimal graphic install. I did this because YAST2 is a PITA in text mode (it's usable, but not a whole lot of fun). Next problem I hit was Sendmail. I cussed out RedHat for turning off port 25 in release 7.2, and I would have cussed out SuSE for doing the same in 8.0, but I don't know any good German profanity. You've got to change the last line of /etc/sysconfig/mail to SMTPD_LISTEN_REMOTE="yes" Jamie Cameron, developer of Webmin ( http://www.webmin.com ), is a god. If I were a woman I'd want to bear his children. Anyway, I'm happy. My server is happy. Life is good. -- Bill On Sunday 19 May 2002 10:58 pm, Bill Sheehan wrote:
Hi all,
I've been using SuSE 8.0 for a while now, and I feel comfortable enough with it to put it on my server. Said server is running 7.3 with all partitions save root on an LVM. (One of the things I love about SuSE is its support for LVM out of the box.) Now here's my problem:
I've tried once before to do a clean install on an existing LVM, instructing the install to format all LVM paritions except /dev/system/home. It croaked, and I ended up having to delete the LVM and re-create it. Is there a way to do this, or should I just back everything up, wipe the disk, and create a new LVM?
