I've pondered the HOWTO mentioned above but the link to Hedriks work on the ide drivers has patches for 2.0.38pre1, 2.2.15-15, and 2.3.99-pre3. It wasn't obvious which one was the correct one to apply to the 2.2.13 or 2.2.14 kernel source.

Looks like I need completely new source... the only drive options under 'other IDE chipset support' are:
Generic ALI DTC HOLTEC QDI UMC PROMISE DC4030 (doesn't fix the problem)
I have also downloaded the 2.2.14 source from kernel.org and when I run 'make menuconfig' on it there is no support there either. The only kernels that do seem to offer it are the 2.3.X kernels, but then everything else goes to hell because you have to scrap everything you know about ipchains and all the good examples available on the net, for something called iptables that doesn't yet completely replace ipchains, and many of the config options for most of the examples I have seen are no longer available.

Try this link and use the latest patch (24 jan. 2000 I think): http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/hedrick/old/ -- Bob F EMail FBob@wt.net A Truly Wise Man Never Plays Leapfrog With A Unicorn... -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
