Well, if you're using KDE, then the simplest GUI method would be your knetwork applet; it can show you the available networks and their signal strengths. Just right-click on the applet in the system tray, select New Connection and then your wireless interface, and a window will pop up. When you're done, just close the window.
Yes, I know that one, but this gives me no info about a/b/g/n and no channel numbers. That's why I asked the question.

Anyone have experience with programs? My laptop has Intel 5100 wifi, running 11.1.
