Should work fine . I would remove the drive and use another box to install tyhe system then move it back. 486 class are REALLLLY slow for intalls. Make sure it rrboots and goes thrigh the configureation scripts. then put it back. It takes forever for them on 486s. You can use a 10 megabit ethernet to hookit to your oyther pc. If you only have two you can cross the cables. Check the ethernet docs on which piar need to be crossed.otherwise oyu need a hub. if the other one is 100 megabit , you will need on that is 10/100 to suport both. Hello Linux folks! Does somebody know if Intel 486 DX2 PC will work with Linux 2.2.14 kernel? Can I use electronic parallel port swith to connect three printers to this PC?
Do you mean one ot those switching boxes , or it this an add in card that suports them as lpt1 , 2 and 3 ? /devlp0 ,1 ,2 in linux ? If they are sut up as para;llel ports 1,2 and 3 you should be ok. If you have a small drive less that 500 to 200 meg , good luck on fiting suse on it. I had trouble parring it down.
I want to use this junk PC as my network printer server. Any suggestions are gladly appreciated. Alex
