Hi all...
Is there a way (program?) to find out how much I d/l each night? I need to know how many kb of email, web surfing etc I do each night. (Am I making sense?)
well... there are options, depends on how specific and/or what programs... for network utilization, mrtg is a good one. if you question is truely is as basic as you might be asking. http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/ someone already sayed ntop... this will break the traffic down a lot more... http://www.ntop.org/ntop.html sendmail has a stats package... (sendmail.cf names this file. ex: /etc/mail/sendmail.st) (a simple script to copy the old stats off and zero out the stats file) hmm... i am sure there are things lost in my brain that might be triggered by the specific nature of the bandwidth to be watched. you could do something even more complex for web, like setting up squid and running through that... then sourceforge has a stats package, and there are a few others that run on the logs... just depends on why you are trying to get this info, how important it is, and thus how much time and effort you want to put into getting this information. -- ray http://www.redrum.org rcanfiel@blade.redrum.org "UNIX _IS_ user friendly, its just picky about who its friends are."
