Well there is a /media/cdrom as you know in 8.1. But should it be /dev/cdrom or what do you think/know ?.
I should point out that I haven't tried vmware 3.2, but I have run 3.1.1 successfully on SuSE 8.1. If there really is functionality broken or missing in 3.2 you should report it to vmware. For the price they're charging they should provide good support.
I think its the same if talking about cd-rom.
