Not really. Microsoft explained it in an article I will try and find. I had this problem with my office when I switched them from exchange to sendmail. The problem is the Microsoft Rich Text Format (RTF) doesn't go well with other email programs. Also, if you are using Microsoft Outlook "Services" it doesn't work well with other email programs. The best option is to use plain text, and Microsoft Internet Mail (IMO) only with Outlook. This has genearlly fixed any winmail.dat problems with attachments and it being in the emails. Emails without an attachment that you receive the winmail.dat is basically the coding from the RTF or MS Services being stripped out of the email and attached to the email. Atleast that is how I understood it to work.
