I've changed the styles in 'systemsettings' and wolf-fenced this down. KDE applications are all OK, the pulldowns render clean. Its the 'other' applications - Thunderbird, Firefox, Openoffice - where the menus are all messed up. So this really isn't a KDE4 per KDE4 problem.
