Looks like there is some IRQ routing conflict. Try the following boot options, see if one works. acpi=off pci=noacpi "lspci -vv" for the 3 ethernet cards here, one using IRQ22 and the other two using IRQ17. Regards Sid. Ricci Graham wrote:
Sid,
On boot, it shows the Compaq Netelligent card and then it does mention the eepro100 also. In Yast it does NOT recognize a NIC at all. When I go in to Yast and configure the NIC as a Compaq Netelligent, is says the device is busy. When I configure it as a Intel EE Pro 100 it says it find the interface.
Then when I do a "dmesg" it says
"TLAN: Cannot open eth0 because IRQ 0 is already in use"
Any ideas on how to get around this.
Ricci

Sid,
Thanks for the help, but that didn't fix it. Do you know where I can go in and manually change the interface? It is still picking up the Compaq Netelligent Card Interface and I need to change it to the Intel EE Pro 100. What config file is that housed in? It isn't changing it when I change it in Yast.
Thanks,
Ricci
/etc/sysconfig/network, there should be some files named ifcfg-eth-id-00:04:61:4e:bb:5b and one other if both devices are installed and connected. You should be able to delete and add devices in YaST. If you have both cards installed, do you see both devices in YaST? In dmesg, on boot up or in /var/log/boot.msg does it mention the eepro100? If just the eepro100 is installed, you may have to mv ifcfg-eth-id-00:04:61:4e:bb:5b to a different filename and try YaST again. "lspci" should also show what Ethernet Controllers have been found. Regards Sid.

I am having the same problem with a Compaq 1850R with an integrated NIC. I had originally installed Compaq interface for the NIC and that one wasn't working. A co-worker said he has Linux working on another machine with the same NIC using an Intel EE Pro 100 so I am trying to install that interface, but no matter what I do, it still sees the old interface and then gives the same message as below.
So I guess my question would be how do I get it to recognize a new NIC interface???

Suse 9.1 Pro. While booting, very often network card (integrated) is not found. Usually "few" restarts helps. Messages from log file are below. There is another computer with same configuration, usually no problems there. And same problem occur sometimes with other computers also... What could be reason & solution?

Try "modprobe eepro100" lsmod|grep eepro ###to check it's in. rcnetwork restart
If all is fine, then /etc/modprobe.conf may need modification. I'm not using an eepro100, so this line is commented out, it may need to be differnt on your box. # options eepro io=0x260 irq=10 mem=0x6000
