You might get her to check at school an see if she can ge an education version as a study. I know at One of the local colleges here in tyler that you can get a study copy of ms office for abt $40 or so. just a suggestion jack At 11:48 AM 3/17/00 +0000, Samy Elashmawy wrote:
M$ is also entrenched in the colledge and school system. My wife nneds to get a copy of M$ Office , or otherwise stay after/before calss to use the colledge cpus to do some of the ocuse work. Thats all they use. They state thats becouse the buissines world used M$. So it looks like I'll be getting acopy for her. Shes taking CIS and I guess there no way around it. I am not looking foward to more crashes and blue screen, I get enough of those from all the instaall/deinstall od kids programs. Just got done formating and reinstalling the system a week ago. Thats how bad it got. Its calmed down for now, untill more stuff gets put on it.
O think it just a M$ tacktic to get as meny on the M$ bandwagon as early as possable. Note that Korea turned down a M$ proposal to putt M$ on all there educational iustitutes. They saw it wotr wat it was. A try to get the M$ foot in the door. Hence there attempt to go solely with linux for there educational need. Looks like they wetre right.
I deffinatly think there will be a lot of noise/outrage from the new licencing key issue , especiualy once consumers want to reinstall it. Especialy after forking over severl hu=ndred bucks just to get a one shot isntall , not to mention that once you suport is up you will need to poay what ever the going single teck support call rate that is in effect so that Teck can say you need to re install , and then the antics can realy start with the key fiasco.

I'd argue with that - the majority of Windows users are corporate users. They usually know how to use the tools they are given to do their job, very few are IT literate to the point of being able to change screen resolution without a call to the helpdesk. I work day-to-day in an M$ shop, it's frightening that even something as simple as changing a font is seen as a major challenge. At least it stops them meddling.......Office is popular because it forms a platform for the corporates to develop their own apps on. Again, there's a world of difference between knowing that pushing button "Connect to mainframe" gets them into the Accounts system, another entirely to know what happens when the button is pushed.
Most Windows users wouldn't notice if you put Linux on their boxes, as long as the apps worked the same.

Look, your all missing one fundamental point. Users know windows and
they know
MS-Office, that keeps MS on top.
