Using opera because I like it.
so do i.
System 11.1, KDE 4.3.1 regularly updated.
De last week I found that Opera is very slow and sometimes even does not seem to respond.
i'm aware of two or three possible reasons for this behavior. you'll find discussions about these on the opera news server http://news.opera.com:119 one possibility is that you are using ip6 resolution, which sometimes leads to problems with opera and other webbrowsers. even disabling ip6 in your networkmanager or yast doesn't always solve the problem. i didn't further investigate this, since even though i am using ip6, this did not affect me. another known bug of opera up to version 10 is that processes called when viewing flash or other plugins don't always terminate. there are "operapluginwrapper" and another process, "opera...cleaner..." (forgot the exact name), which often don't terminate. eventually one has to kill them manually to prevent opera gobbling up resources. last and probably least important is the fact that there is a qt4 version of opera 10 available, but not from openSUSE repos (when i checked last). after replacing the oS version using qt3 with the one using qt4 from the opera website, i thought i'd seen a noticable speed improvement. now i think that was by accident or due to illusion, and opera seems to be as fast or slow as it used to be when installed from openSUSE. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
