Easiest way I've found for multimedia buttons is just to use KeyTouch. It picks up on all the keyboards I have and all the extra buttons work.. volume, email, home, fast forward, rewind, pause, play eject etc etc. MUCH easier than using that keybind method.

Packman provides two KeyTouch packages (one is the editor). I was unaware of this software until I read this thread, but I just checked the 10.3 repository and it's there. I installed it.
