I have an Epson Stylus Photo 870 printer that worked great under SUSE 9.0 installation. I have installed the printer the same way with the same PPD file but it no longer provdies a paper selection for "Photo Quality" paper.
/usr/share/cups/model/Epson/Stylus_Photo_870-gimp-print.ppd.gz "Epson Stylus Photo 870 Foomatic/gimp-print (recommended)" provides the Printout Modes "Photo" and "Photo Grayscale" and the Media Types "Photo Paper", "Photo Quality Inkjet Paper", "Photo Quality Glossy Paper", "Premium Glossy Photo Paper", "Premium Luster Photo Paper". Note that the Printout Mode and Media Type are independent, i.e. if you like you can print in "Draft Grayscale (Economy)" Mode on "Premium Glossy Photo Paper". /usr/share/cups/model/stp/escp2-870.ppd.gz "EPSON Stylus Photo 870 - CUPS+Gimp-Print v4.2.7" provides the same kind of parameters but not the nice predefined Foomatic Printout Modes - i.e. you must select all parameters individually.
