I am totally agree with you..
Just.. at the point where kerenl 2.2.18 is going to be release. I cant still find the SuSE-Kernel 2.2.17 in any ftp server of SuSE...
Does this means.. SuSE-Kernel 2.2.16 is back ported in the way that kernel 2.2.17 or future 2.2.18 doesnt add anything new?
IMHO, it should be possible to use a kernel from another distro in SuSE, since there is very little distro dependent stuff in there. As long as it also has everythng you need either compiled in or as modules, there shouldn't be a problem. You could always get the 'enhanced' source and compile it yourself and it will almost certainly work (although this will terminate your support contract with SuSE, if it's still running).
I was wondering.. can I use in a SuSE 6.4 or 7.0 (comes with 2.2.17pre) with a kernel optimised by other distro? like kernel 2.2.17-mdk?
