Well this is from the config.log. I'm not sure what it's doing.

Well, to me this says the configure script is broken. This line should call the c-compiler. From one of my config.log:s configure:1307: checking for gcc configure:1420: checking whether the C compiler (gcc -g -O2 ) works configure:1436: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 conftest.c 1>&5
./configure: ./: is a directory configure:1546: $? = 126 configure:1553: error: cannot run C compiled programs. If you meant to cross compile, use `--host'.
