Has anybody been experiencing lockups from the latest NVIDIA drivers from their website. I am running SuSe 6.2, and updated to the latest XFree86 4.0, and then installed the new drivers. And now it locks up on me pretty consistently, but rather than undoing what I did I decided to install 6.4. And I was wondering if anyone was eperiencing lockups with the GeForce 256 and the latest XFree86 4.0. The card and drivers were working very well until I updated.
Yes I have had the same problem you describe. I sent a message to the list last week but no-one seems to have answered. I updated X to v4 and built the drivers from source and when I try to startx the screen is blank. Fortunately the keyboard still works so I could ctrl-alt-del and not whack the hdd with the reset button. Before this though, I had complete lockout and had to reset the pc. I did find one oddity- the /var/log/xerr.0.log (I'm not quite sure if that is the logfile name) reported an error that the nv_drv.o file had duplicate symbols after the nvidia_drv.o file had been loaded, so I boldly moved the nv_drv.o file from /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/ to a ~/delete/ directory. Then I ran startx again and instead of a lockout a blank screen, but the kbd still worked, so I could ctrl-alt-del. I know this does not solve the problem, but at least there are now 2 minds pondering the problem... If you have any further inspiration I would be eager to hear it. ttfn -dale -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
