Hi Pete, I'm running this machine with a geforce 256 DDR card. Running XFree 4.0.3 + SuSE 7.1 + KDE2.1.+nvidia latest 0.9-769 drivers. I had the same problem during install with x-setup. A black screen first but I did ctrl-alt-F7 and the x-setup screen came up. Didn't check the glx box option. This will then give you the nv driver and you can run sax2 for fine tuning. You have then different options : install the nvidia drivers, run sax2 -f etc.. or upgrade to XFree 4.0.3 and install the latest nvidia drivers etc..; Don't forget to read the Readme file first. Hope this helps, Filip. Le Dimanche 25 Mars 2001 05:44, vous a vez écrit :
Anyone using Xfree 4 with an Nvidia Geforce DDR card? My card specificly is a Winfast 256 DDR
Using SuSE 7.1 When I first tried to install linux the installation failed after the first restart. This is the point where X is setup. My monitor went black and then it went to sleep. I changed to an older ATI 3d expression card which allowed me to complete the install.
I later installed the Winfast (GeForce) card and installed X using Sax2 and later using Sax1
Xfree 3 seems to work fine, although it is noticeably slower than 4. Version 4 will not display fonts correctly in Star Office and printing is dis-proportionate. Also DPMS does not seem to function.
Is this an Xfree issue or just my particular video card. I have an ATI 4 meg all in wonder card I could use, but have not tried it...the GeForce is obviously the superior card.
Oh, I also installed the RPM's from Nvidia's web site. Perhaps this is the problem?
Thanks
-Pete
