Thanks,Carl That was what I was trying to do when I lucked into the method I used. I remembered seeing "repair installed system" on the CD, but I couldn't find it so I went into "install...." I can see how this would fix the boot problem, but will I be able to go on line for the rest of the update if the modules are really missing? And, where do I look for "repair installed system," on the first screen, or farther into the install procedure?
Start the installation process and proceed as though you're installing from scratch. At some point, it's going to probe the system and find an already installed Linux. At that point, it should ask if you want to repair the installed system or proceed with a 'new installation'.
Try to get the system booting normally before attempting to address other questions. Less complicated!

Thanks for the info,Carl, and for straightening me out on list usage. Guess I mis-understood the instructions. This seem a very sound approach, to me. Think I will wait and attack it in the morning when I can think clearer. Will keep you advised of the progress. I think I've learned a lot tonight. Thanks, --ED--
