The "treatment" was to copy all of it somewhere else, reformat, and copy back. It's no use.
It wouldn't be. You need to copy out re mkfs the original copy back in Of course I use LVM so what I do is simply create a new LV, mkfs there, copy across (cpio or rsync) then remount the new LV where the old LV was. Sometime later I deallocate the old LV. Much faster. Saves one copy.
I'm currently running e2fsck on that unit, then I will tell you the current figure.
