Yes, it seems that you cannot "try before you buy" anymore with Win4Lin. I would really reccommend you look at the new VMWare beta, http://www.vmware.com should let you grab it and try. It should be out sometime in October. I'm trying out the new version and it seems to be very speedy in contrast to the past version (2.0.x), and their website states that the current beta has debbugging code that slows overall performance, meaning the final will be even faster (hopefully)! I've heard from others (on this list and off) that Win4Lin is faster than VMWare (by a longshot in some cases -- but 3.x should be closer in speed), but that it lackes support for many things. In VMWare you can install any recent version of windows (95/98/ME/NT/2K/XP), Linux, BSD, and solaris (probably others), and even run more than one of them at a time. In Win4Lin you can only run windows 95/98, and it seems (from what I hear) to not work on certain applications; perhaps since it is simply trying to let you run windows on linux whereas VMWare emulates a complete computer inside your computer. I have not used Win4Lin, so don't take my word for it on that ;) I tried several times when they allowed the demo (when version 2.x was out), but everytime they only supported kernels that were behind the times. I wasn't willing to go back to 2.2.18 from 2.4.1 at that time, last time I looked they had modules for version 2.4.5 or something like that . . . If you have problems with the VMWare install, post them here, we would be glad to help! Cheers. _Nick Stephen J Brook wrote:
Hello
Using SUSE 7.2 Pro....
After trying and to failing to get VMware to install or see my operating system Win98Se CD, and trying out Wine which still has some way to go.
I wanted to try Win4Lin, I had a look on site and registered but it seems to me I have to buy the Win4Lin license before I try!
Is this correct or is they somewhere I can get this Win4Lin before buying like time limited VMware.
