I am confused. Would be grateful if you explained what is going on. I attach the last Xorg.0.log file.
Thanks, Felix. It's not clear for me which driver is used actually. I guess it can't be nouveaus as it is not installed, so it has to be xorg nv driver which is installed. That is, what is reported by lsmod is not correct. Is this the case?
Uninstallation of proprietary drivers is incomplete. I understand this.
Xorg.0.log reports using user-mode NV driver instead of NOUVEAU driver, which happens because proprietary driver uninstallation failed to remove nomodeset from kernel cmdline in your Grub stanza.
I don't understand this one. Really, I forgot to remove nomodeset option from menu.lst. But I had this options with nvidia driver as well?
NOUVEAU will not be used by Xorg until the xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau package is installed, This seems clear.
even though nouveau is integral to kernel modesetting. What does this mean? What about nvidia driver?
So, with nomodeset removed from cmdline, Xorg should fall back to using the much slower generic FBDEV X driver until xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau is installed. I don't unserstand this. If nouveau is not installed it cannot be used, fall bask has to occur anyway, not? Is the FBDEV X driver the same as xorg nv driver?
I will try to install nvidia manually but first I have to find out how to switch off xorg. Thanks again, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
