could someone explain what multi-user meant if there was no networking to enable multiusers to log into it?
You never used a mainframe or mini in the 60s or 70s? The CDC when I was in undergrad had terminals and printers all over campus, connected via serial ports. Each terminal allowed a login, either different users, or the same user multiple times. Same thing now, multiple vttys, several logins on same console via vts, all considered different users whether or not technically true, and still with option to connect seats via serial port connected terminals. Maybe a better term would have been multi-login, but what was is now. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
