Hello, everyone. I am also in sunny Minnesota, and have a 7.3 box firewalling my RoadRunner connection. Please do not directly attach your machine to their network without firewalling it in some way. Even the personal firewall is better than nothing. My logs show regular scans of people knocking on the door. I used to have DSL, and cable seems to compare pretty well speedwise. As for their support, I have never needed it. I picked up the equipment from the shop, brought it home, plugged it in, and everything worked. Linux DHCP client picked an address up straight away, and I'm using general DNS servers anyway. In fact, I still haven't called them to set up my johnnyuser@mn.rr.com email account, and apparently they won't even talk to you without that because that is how they identify you. I also have friends with cable, and we have it in the office, and everyone seems happy with it. One of them is even using FreeSCO on a diskless/headless box to firewall off his home network, so getting connected is simple enough. Bye for now, Stuart. -----Original Message----- From: Jay Vollmer [mailto:jvollmer1@mn.rr.com] Sent: Saturday, June 01, 2002 22:31 To: Lawrence Sayre; SuSE Subject: Re: [SLE] Road Runner Internet & SuSE 7.3? Will Time Warner's Road Runner internet service work with SuSE 7.3?
In Minnesota, RoadRunner doesn't require the use of rrlogind, so everything works effortlessly. I'm still switching to DSL though. MNroadrunner's DNS, and support are beyond crappy. <snip>
