SuSE have really put themselves in a fix. I don't see how they will ever put out another distribution that will match the magnitude of improvement in organization and concept that they have achieved in this release. I was _NOT_ expecting anything this nice. The organization of YaST2 is simply incredible. More importantly it is clearly nothing but a foundation for future improvement.
"Job well done doesn't" come close to assessing how I feel about this latest release. The people at SuSE who have been watching me rant for the past few week must have been biting their tongues and laughing their butts off at me. They already got the message. I have the feeling there is much more yet to be discovered. I can't wait till this thing gets wrapped up in the KDE2.1.
You folks who are trying to save a few pennies by waiting for the download are really missing out. It's better than you might expect. {;-)>
Thanks again SuSE,
Steve

I have SuSE 7.1 pro running on three systems now. A dell laptop and two self-builts. The laptop is, believe it or not, the easiest one. Everything works on it without much tweaking. Its a little Dell Ls ultralight. The self-builts have 384mb with amd chips. The last version of SuSE I installed was 7.0. I don't upgrade my stuff ever; so I just blast everything away and put new stuff on it. AFter I do the basic installation though, I rarely use the cd's again. Just as rarely do I use YAST or SAX. My feeling about 7.1 is that it is very nice and with the desktop + workstation installation, I have gone about my way self-compiling this and that, removing KDE and installing some gnome stuff, updating windowmaker, etc. Of all the ones I have seen, 7.1 seems up there in terms of use and functionality. The ability to have reiserfs, the patched 2.4 kernel, and X4 all combine to make a nice toolkit. I do have some fond memories of SuSE 5.0 though :) Thanks SuSE! -- Michael Perry mperry@tsoft.com ------------------
