Hello everyone! I am new to SuSE, but not new to linux. I've messed around w/ redhat before, but ever since I got a new video card, no "X" window would support it...until now. I have windows on my primary drive, and would like to install SuSE on the second drive. I have the 2nd drive zapped and ready to go, but whenever the CD installer boots up, it never finds a suitable drive. I assume that it is only looking at the 1st drive. How can I make it install on my secondary drive without having to open up the case and disconnecting the other drive? Thanks!
You have essentially the same setup as I. 7.1 had no trouble with my setup at all, so it should work for you. Some suggestions: Assuming you are familiar with it, from Windoze or DOS run FDISK to see if it can see your second hard drive. If it can't, you obviously have a hardware problem that will need to be corrected. Provided FDISK can see the drive, take a look and see if there are any existing partions. If you are going to use the drive exclusively for Linux, use FDISK to remove the partitions. Try the Linux installer again. If there are no existing partitions, see if FDISK is able to create and remove a partition. It doesn't matter what kind; you are just looking for the ability to create partitions on the second drive. If FDISK can't create and remove partitions, that too would indicate a hardware problem of some kind. If FDISK finds nothing wrong, it's time to use the manual Linux partitioning tools. Refer to the distro's documentation or a book like "Running Linux" for details on how to do that. If you have never used FDISK before, I would suggest reading up on it before using it. It is pretty straightforward, but it's still possible to wipe out a drive if it's used incorrectly. -- Best regards, Rudder mailto:rudder@olsusa.com
