The service "rpmconfigcheck" tells me about it on every boot - but you will not see this if you have the splash screen active. That's why I disable it. Or one of the reasons ;-)
It is disabled here. I do not remember doing it intentionally, so may be it is not default?
It should be a default. It has been for decades ;-)
May be someone needs to think about adapting it to modern realities ... as long as we have to live with modern realities.
That's true. It goes into syslog, too, and it may take long to run - during boot. But it does not hold boot, as far as I remember. I just modified the script to send an email to myself.
Regarding the thread topic - personally I think tmpfiles.d is overused and pushed far beyond its original use case - pre-creating directories on tmpfs during boot. In particular, current implementation makes it impossible to
a) periodically clean /tmp b) skip /tmp/systemd-private-* during this periodical cleanup (it is a must) c) remove /tmp/systemd-private-* on boot
because you can only specify either b) or c).
Yes, I agree. The older implementation, in cron, had more adjustments, like for instance, leave alone root's files. A refinement would be to only periodically remove files older than the current uptime (in case this is longer than the configured period). This way /tmp/systemd-private-* can also be purged during use, if wanted. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
